What really happens during a psychic medium reading? 7You booked one with Jessica Lynne to find out

I wouldn’t call myself particularly spiritual, but I’ve always had a soft spot for signs, coincidences and indulging in the occasional horoscope.

I’ve been to a handful of tarot readings over the years, but I’ve always felt sceptical about whether there’s any truth behind it all, or whether readers are simply telling people what they want to hear.

That said, when I was offered the chance to sit down (virtually) with one of Australia’s most sought-after psychic mediums, I raced to lock in an appointment.

Jessica Lynne is a psychic medium, entrepreneur, host of the podcast Talk Spirit To Me and founder of wellness brand The Lime Glo.

With more than 180,000 Instagram followers and a seriously long waitlist (there’s zero openings for 2026) I felt pretty honoured to be slotted into her busy workload.

Having lost my grandma earlier this year, I felt like this reading could not have come at a better time, and I hoped it could offer some kind of closure.

With just one week’s notice, I felt really nervous beforehand. I had no idea what to expect, and the thought of connecting with a loved one felt equal parts exciting and a little overwhelming.

Like most things in the spiritual world, the advice online was mixed.

I had read some recommendations about manifesting the person you hoped would come through, while others suggested putting no pressure on the experience at all, insisting that loved ones choose when and how they make contact.

Jessica conducts her readings virtually from Melbourne, and when she appeared on Zoom beneath a neon sign that read ‘I talk to dead people’, I wondered what I had signed up for.

Almost immediately, Jessica said a woman had stepped forward for me (a huge relief) and it was quite clear from describing her personality and the role she played in my life that it was my grandma.

She also shared other personal details, about activities we used to do together, and the way she felt before she passed.

Essentially, the more Jessica spoke, the harder it became to dismiss everything as a coincidence, and I really took note of the advice and reassurance passed on by Jessica.

Throughout the rest of the session, she bounced observations, messages and emotions, relaying whatever came to her as it appeared, she shared messages from my grandma about my future — particularly when it came to weddings, homes and children.

By the end of the reading, the main things I took away were that my grandma was proud of me and didn’t want me carrying any guilt.

Did it turn me into someone booking regular medium sessions? No. But it gave me a sense of closure I hadn’t been expecting at a time when I needed it more than I realised.

If you’re open to connecting with a loved one on the other side, it’s well worth getting on the waitlist.
